This page explains how Cape Media Limited handles information you provide when you use the Digi na Cape mobile application. For any questions, email info@capemedia.co.ke.

1. Introduction

Digi na Cape (“Digi na Cape”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Digi na Cape mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect information when you use the App.

By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Who we are

Controller: Cape Media Limited.

Contact: info@capemedia.co.ke

3. Scope

This policy applies to the Digi na Cape App. It does not apply to third-party websites or services that we link to (for example, social networks you open in a browser). Those services have their own privacy policies.

4. Information we collect

4.1 Account and profile information

When you register or use your account, we process information such as: name, email address, phone number (if provided), and username/password credentials. Passwords are not stored in plain text on our side; you choose and protect your password.

4.2 Authentication and security

We process sign-in data, one-time passwords (OTP) where used, session tokens, and related security signals to operate login, logout, and password recovery.

4.3 Service usage and content interactions

We process information about how you use the App, including: content you browse or open; likes, comments, follows, shares, and similar interactions where those features are available; subscription or access checks associated with content tiers; and recommendation-related events such as recommendation impressions, clicks, and viewing sessions used to personalise suggestions and analyse product performance.

4.4 Playback and streaming

To deliver video and audio, we process streaming-related data such as content identifiers, playback technical data, and information needed for encrypted playback, including interactions with digital rights management (DRM) systems as described below.

4.5 Device and technical data

When you use the App, our servers automatically receive technical information typical of internet-connected apps, such as IP address, approximate region derived from IP, app version, device/browser or WebView characteristics, timestamps, and diagnostic information needed to operate and secure the service.

4.6 Communications

If you contact us (for example by email), we process the information you provide in those communications.

5. How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the App and your account.
  • Authenticate you and protect against fraud and abuse.
  • Deliver and license content, including encrypted streaming where applicable.
  • Personalise recommendations and remember viewing progress where the service supports it.
  • Operate social and engagement features (such as comments, likes, follows).
  • Operate subscription or access rules for content.
  • Improve reliability, performance, and security; troubleshoot issues.
  • Comply with law and enforce our terms.

6. Storage on your device

The App may store tokens or cached profile data on your device (for example using the device’s local storage) so you can stay signed in and load the App efficiently. You can typically remove local App data by logging out and/or clearing app storage in your device settings, subject to how your device works.

7. Sharing of information

7.1 Service providers / infrastructure

We share information with trusted providers that help us host, secure, and operate our systems, including our backend APIs and related infrastructure.

7.2 DRM and playback

Where protected content is delivered using industry-standard DRM (such as Widevine), necessary technical data is processed by the relevant DRM provider under their terms and privacy policies, in addition to our own processing. This is required for rights-managed playback on supported devices.

7.3 Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, Digi na Cape, or others.

We do not sell your personal information in the traditional sense of selling lists of individuals to random advertisers.

8. Retention

We retain information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the App, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods may vary by data category and legal requirements.

9. Security

We implement administrative, technical, and organisational measures designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your rights

Depending on applicable law (including, where relevant, the Kenya Data Protection Act and regulations), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, object to, or restrict certain processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise rights, contact info@capemedia.co.ke. We may need to verify your request.

11. Children’s privacy

The App is not intended for children under the minimum age required by law in their country. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a way that violates applicable law. If you believe we have collected information from a child improperly, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes may require additional notice where required by law. Your continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy unless applicable law requires otherwise.
